Amit Kumar Choubey

A Philanthropist on Mission to bring good change…Amit Choubey “ Founded SANMAT” in 2007 in Chennai to empower the disadvantaged communities and bring good change in lives of people through innovative intervention at policy level as well as as grass root. He comes from very simple family of remote village Nawada-Govindganj of East Champaran, Bihar. His most of the early education completed with Government Schools and Colleges (Termed less resourceful school).

This 2 nd Son of a basic School Teacher Mr. Harendra Choubey, and Mrs. Geeta Choubey turned to Serial Social Political Entrepreneur founded few organizations SANMAT, PCF, FDS, Banka Silk, Devlabs-Mart and Bihar Social Entrepreneurs Association, holds B.Tech ECE, M.A Governance and Development from Institute of Development Studies, SUSSEX University, UK, LLB,I-Policy- Public Policy certified development leader and Change loom fellow with more than 27 scholarly research Papers in International Journals. Recognized as Alumni award finalist of 2015 of British Council, New Delhi and also by Action forum for India among top100 Social entrepreneurs of India. Amit is sharing knowledge with students of pioneer educational institutions such as National Institute of Fashion Technology, Patna, O P Jindal Global University as jury and Panelist. His leadership traits have made him to win University of Sussex University Union Council election in Brighton, England and Top student body “Student President” for Institute of Development Studies, UK as well as contest Parliament Election from East Champaran. Along with Japanese counterpart he proposed and operationalized weekly tower Market in Lewes Town, East Sussex for small farmers and also lead a protest based campaign against Tesco for opening store in Lewes Town to save the local small shopkeepers and poor small farmers. Amit has constantly rendered his out of box innovation in policy change/making through catalyzing demands from grass root in Education of most marginalized community, Social Forestry under MNREGA and establishment of community radio station. Amit through Sanmat has worked with almost 1560 Gram Panchayat of Bihar for women empowerment through leadership & skill development and Rehabilitation support after water based disaster. His effort catalyzed Sanmat to spread over Bihar-Jharkhand (All Districts), West Bengal through social forestry and Skill Training Centers. Amit has been recognized & featured in The Badger, Univ. of SUSSEX, UK and also on the home page of World’s best Development school Institute of Development studies, UK for his contribution to society.

British Council, counts his Post Matric Scholarship based innovative model as one among best social impact intervention towards mainstreaming century’s long suppressed Dalit community. This has benefited student from the Dalit community of almost every Panchayat of Bihar, Jharkhand and UP. Dept. of SC & ST Welfare has appraised his voluntarily contribution. It is believed that in coming years this will take shape of as next social revolution related to SC & ST Empowerment. This initiative has changed life of more than 100000 marginalized youths till 2015. His another intervention though SANMAT is in the area of environment for Green Earth: Social forestry with target of growing more than 15 Cr tree and 1.5Million jobs for the poor in Five years in the area of Seven Districts of Bihar includes 92 Blocks and 1560 Gram Panchayat. Through Sanmat He is also working for generating livelihood for community through Greening of Highways project in West Bengal and Jharkhand. Generated Livelihood for more than 20,000 Families and Created more than 300 Agro based Social Entrepreneurs supplying material components like Bamboo Tree Guard, Water Carrying Trolleys, Earthen Pot, Jeevamrit and Vermi Compost for plantation in the vicinity of Kosi Basin.

He is 1 st Indian who won University of Sussex University Union Council election in Brighton, England and Top student body Post “Student President” of Institute of Development Studies, UK. Amit has also won Legal suit against UKBA for VISA renewal related case by pleading the case by him and set an example for SUSSEX University Students, where many students usually forced to deport from UK for mistakes of UKBA. Along with Japanese counterpart Amit proposed and operationalized weekly tower Market in Lewes Town, East Sussex for small farmers and also lead a protest based campaign against Tesco for opening store in Lewes Town to save the local small shopkeepers and poor small farmers.

Almost more than 4000 Social organizations, Start-ups, CBOs, NPOs have come together and formed Bihar Social Entrepreneurs Association (BSEA) under his leadership. Amit has been also been short listed/awarded various Fellowships and also been Finalist to various such as FUTURE India, NASSCOM Social Innovation Award, Atlas Corps, USA and many more. UNESCO Association has awarded Amit as National Youth Icon 2017 and also a Leaders in Environment And Development Fellow with LEAD INDIA.

He is also known as Man behind Community Radio Station awareness & Technical support provider in Bihar & Jharkhand. He also runs a volunteer network of 27000 youths in Bihar along with network of 4500 active Social organizations/Entrepreneurs in Bihar.

Along with like-minded advocates, Amit has started Free Legal Support Cell for students, Women and Under trial Prisoners with his capacity of being a registered advocate with Bar Council of India, at honorable High court of Patna, Bihar.
